Daniar Achakeev - Data Engineer

I usually start relatively early in the morning because it's quiet then, and I go over my current programming tasks. I usually set aside a block of time in the morning for development work, since I'm more productive and creative in the morning. I try to schedule meetings and administrative tasks for the afternoon.

In my current project, I benefit most of all from the diversity of the team.

In data engineering, I find the focus on performance, scalability, and reliability particularly exciting.

In addition to translating business requirements, it’s important to keep non-functional aspects in mind and take a pragmatic approach. I always love it when we can do something “better” - that is, faster, more cost-efficient, or more memory-efficient - and thereby create added value for the user.

My favorite memory is of a project in which we developed a real-time processing platform for analyzing and managing stock market data. We got to build everything from scratch, and the team back then was great.

Areas of expertise enable all employees to deepen their knowledge and develop their skills in specific fields and areas. They serve as an interface between sales, the market situation, the company's strategic direction, and the employees.

In the Data Engineering area of expertise, we see ourselves as a “guild” of data engineers. We not only exchange ideas on technical topics, but also discuss the implications of market and sales conditions, strategic direction, managing partnerships, employee enablement, and upskilling.

Currently, we are primarily focusing on the implications of Gen AI for data engineering.

As the head of an area of expertice, I am responsible for coordinating tasks, communicating with the sales department and senior management, as well as with other company committees. In addition, I serve as a catalyst, “Scrum Master,” idea collector and generator, educator on fundamental concepts, and sometimes even a motivator.

Focus on fundamentals and examining them through the lens of "Gen AI Ready Architecture" (autonomous agent interaction with data platforms). Single-node vs. large-cluster architecture; a shift in focus toward OLTP and hybrid platforms (OLTP/OLAP).

My colleague Andreas Luckert was approached by an AWS group from Karlsruhe, who asked if we had anyone familiar with data platforms who would be interested in giving a presentation at the AWS Karlsruhe Meetup. I agreed and gave a presentation there. After the presentation, Andreas and I had the idea to organize something similar here. We first brought another colleague, Mark Bangert, on board, and initially the idea was to host an AWS-only meetup. However, since there are so many AWS meetups already, we decided to broaden our focus to include data processing and AI. That’s also a great fit for our company.

In my opinion, different perspectives, opinions, and insights are important for product development and marketing.

For me, it’s my colleagues who make HMS what it is. I like our open and transparent corporate culture. I also really appreciate the company’s commitment to social responsibility. That’s very important to me as well.
