Work-Life Balance at HMS

Balancing work and family life is a key priority for us and has been firmly embedded in our corporate culture for many years. We believe that work and personal life should be in harmony, even as life circumstances and demands change.

  • Certified by berufundfamilie Service GmbH since 2012
  • Family-friendly HR policies with a long-term focus
  • Regular refinement of our arrangements

Our Goal

We want to enable our employees to balance their professional responsibilities with their personal lives. We actively incorporate a family-friendly approach into our day-to-day work. In this way, we create a work environment that provides appropriate support to our employees in various life situations.

Our Concept of Family

By “family,” we mean any form of committed cohabitation or responsible care for one another. This includes traditional families with or without children, support for older close relatives (e.g., parents, stepparents, or foster parents), as well as modern lifestyles and community arrangements.

An Overview of Our Support Services

We believe that good work requires the right conditions. That’s why we help you shape your daily work routine in a way that suits you best.

Professional demands and personal circumstances change over the course of a person’s life. With flexible options regarding working hours and location, we want to help you balance both as best as possible.

Flexible Work Time Account
Achieving a good work-life balance requires flexibility. That’s why we allow you to arrange your contractually agreed-upon working hours flexibly.

Work Location
To help you balance work and family, we offer flexible solutions regarding your work location.

Working Abroad (“Workation”)
If you’d like to work from abroad for a period of time (“workation”), we can make that possible under certain conditions.

Sabbatical
Sometimes you need a deliberate break - for family, personal projects, continuing education, or simply to recharge. That’s why we offer you the opportunity to take a sabbatical of up to six months every four years.

The birth and upbringing of a child are special stages of life that bring many wonderful moments, but also new organizational and personal challenges. It’s important to us to support you as best we can through the various phases of family life.

Child Care Subsidy
Balancing family life and your career is often a real challenge. That’s why we support you with a child care subsidy for children up to and including age 12, in the amount of €150 per month per child.

Parental Leave & Maternity Leave
The birth of a child is a very special time in life. To help you fully experience this time, Germany offers parental leave and maternity leave. It’s important to us to support you as best as possible during this phase of life and to work together to find good solutions.

Emergency Childcare
Sometimes things don’t go as planned: Your usual childcare falls through, or an important appointment comes up suddenly. For exactly these situations, there are various emergency childcare options so you can get reliable support on short notice. As an additional resource, toy boxes are available at our offices.

Sick Days for Childrean
We know how important it is for parents to be able to care for their children properly when they’re sick. That’s why we offer you the option to take special leave to care for a sick child under certain conditions.

Caring for a close family member is a demanding life situation that often arises unexpectedly and presents employees with major organizational challenges. It’s important to us to support you as best we can during this time and to work together to find good, sustainable solutions.

Short-Term Absence from Work / Caregiving Days
If a close family member unexpectedly becomes in need of care, you can take up to ten workdays off at short notice to provide care or organize appropriate care arrangements.

Care Leave
If a family member requires care, you can take up to six months of unpaid leave from work to provide full-time care. Alternatively, part-time work is also possible and can be arranged on an individual basis.

Family Care Leave
Family care leave allows you to balance your job and caregiving responsibilities over the long term. You can reduce your working hours for up to two years.

Emergency Folder
In a sudden case of emergency, there’s usually no time to gather important documents. The emergency folder helps you and your family members keep all essential documents in one central location.

Needs and desires change over the course of one’s working life. While education, family, or career are often the main focus at the beginning, issues such as financial planning, health, and the transition to retirement become increasingly important later on.

Part-Time Work in Later Life & Individual Transition Models
The transition from working life to retirement varies greatly today. Some employees want to gradually reduce their working hours, while others prefer a phased transition or customized solutions for their final years on the job. We’d be happy to work with you to explore which options best fit your personal situation and our.

Company Pension Plan
The statutory pension alone is often insufficient to maintain your accustomed standard of living in retirement. That’s why we support you with a company pension plan that makes it easier for you to build up additional retirement savings.

Family-Friendly Practices in Everyday Work Life

Through joint initiatives, we create opportunities that involve families, promote interaction, and provide practical support for everyday family life.
